Don Don River Mill Lodge is approximately 16Km form Hobhouse, which is situated on the R26. The Mill was build in c1865 and houses the original milling equipment which is still in working condition. The old mill and the miller’s hut have been converted into accommodation, which is on the banks of the Caledon River which is the border between South Africa and the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.
Beautiful sunsets, the sound of the flowing river and the view of the mountains are breathtaking. The poplar grove along the riverbank attracts many species of birds and is an ideal bird spotting site for both migrant and indigenous species. A birder's paradise. The unspoiled banks of the river make it an ideal get-away for the freshwater fishing enthusiast - barbell, carp and yellow-fish are of the fish which may be challenged. On the farm, one can surely take a moment to visit buildings such as the old fort and stables. The oldest painted art in the world,. painted by the first inhabitants of this region, the San or Bushmen, can be viewed in the sandstone shelters along the banks of the Caledon River.
