Anything less than one (or 100% efficiency) means that extra power is required to achieve the actual task at hand. Most homes only have a 0.77 power factor, or even less. This means that only 77% of the electricity passing through the meter at your home or business is being used effectively, while the other 23% are wasted . With a low power factor, Eskom has to deliver more electricity to do the same work.  The PEPP System increases that power factor in most cases to 97% or 98%, thereby increasing the effective use of your electricity, and lowering your usage. This is very close to the ideal of 100%
